See, infidelity is one kind of sin, but my true failure was inattention. - Martin Hart from True Detective
One of my most maturing realizations was that no one will tell me what is happening and what I should do. Since interpreting reality is personal and subjective; I reveal it for myself by paying attention and observing myself in it. By examining reality, I get to know to what is out there and I can then learn to navigate it.
Inattention causes parts of reality to be hidden from me. An overlooked relationship, a negative trend, a destructive pattern - they will reveal themselves inevitably. The earlier I reveal them by paying attention, the fewer negative surprises I will have. I canāt say āI didnāt knowā, because itās my responsibility to get to know to what is important. So I tell myself:
I want to be aware and alert of what is happening in my life because everything that I donāt pay attention to might and will be used against me.
